FETAC D20165 Safety and Health at Work (3-day programme)
Aim
To provider learners with the skills and knowledge necessary to promote and maintain safety and health in the working environment.
Course details:
Learners who successfully complete this course will:

Understand the concepts of safety, health and welfare in the workplace

Be familiar with the core health and safety legislation
-
Recognise the factors that influence safety, health and welfare
-
Apply the principles and procedures of safety and health to the workplace
-
Understand the importance of hazard identification and risk assessment
-
Promote safe working practices and procedures
Course Content
The following core areas will be covered on every programme (additional modules will be added in response to learner needs) :
- Legislation and the role of the HSA

Health and safety promotion in the workplace
-
Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment
-
Role of communication, training and information
-
Health Promotion
-
Physical, Chemical and Biological hazards and controls
-
Fire Safety
-
Manual Handling
-
First Aid requirements
-
Accidents and dangerous occurrences prevention and response
-
Personal Protective Equipment
-
Safety Statement
How you will learn
Each module adopts a practical approach to learning with detailed presentations, individual exercises, group work , interactive discussions and workplace assignments. To optimise the benefits to the learners, programme numbers will be restricted to 10 learners. This will allow each module to be customised, as far as possible, to the individual training needs of each learner.
Assessment
A written examination of duration 90 minutes will be completed on the afternoon of the third day. In addition two workplace projects will be completed by learners during the programme.
Certification
Successful learners will be awarded the Level 5 D20165 FETAC Component Award
