Safety for Safety Representatives - IOSH Certified ....3 Day Training Course
For Safety Representatives and employees who have been designated safety
responsibilities within their organisations.
Employers of small organisations will also benefit.
Aim
The aim of the course is to equip the participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to operate effectively as safety representatives.
Course Content
The IOSH Safety for Safety Representatives training course is presented as three one-day modules.
Module 1
Module 1 will equip participants with an understanding of the roles of roles of
Safety Representative. Current safety legislation will be detailed and causes of the most
frequent workplace accidents will be highlighted.
After completing Module 1 you will understand:

The relevant sections of the Safety, Health & Welfare at Work Act 2005 and the 2007 Regulations
-
The role of the Safety Representative
-
Hazard identification techniques
-
How to complete risk assessments and identify controls
-
What safe systems of work are necessary
-
The main causes of injury in the workplace (slips/trips/falls and manual handling)
-
The requirements for accident reporting and investigation
Module 2
Module 2 addresses specific workplace hazards. The legislation relevant to each hazard
will be covered and the necessary safety arrangements will be detailed.
After completing Module 2 you will understand:

The necessary controls for safe chemical use
-
Where safety signs must be used
-
The legal requirements for work equipment
-
The content of the electricity regulations
-
Fire safety requirements
-
The VDU regulations
Module 3
Module 3 focuses on the arrangements necessary to reduce risk in the workplace along
with the auditing and inspection skills necessary to ensure the effectiveness of such
arrangements.
After completing Module 3 you will understand:

First Aid regulations and guidelines
-
Personal Protective Equipment regulations
-
The noise regulations and how to control workplace noise
-
The requirements for safety statements
-
How to communicate and negotiate effectively
-
Where to access safety information
-
Appropriate auditing and inspection techniques
-
What policies are needed to deal with stress/bullying
How you will learn
Each module adopts a practical approach to learning with detailed presentations, individual
exercises, group work and interactive discussions.
Number of participants
To optimise the benefits to the participants, numbers will be restricted to 12 people. This will
allow each module to be customised, as far as possible, to the individual training needs of
each participant.
Certification
An IOSH Certificate is awarded to all those who attend the course and successfully
complete the written and practical assessments.
Fee
Employees of eligible companies may qualify for
funding of this course under the FAS Competency Development Programme,
subject to availability of funds. Email Mary Murphy to establish eligibility.
